"I try to speak to a woman's personal sense of style, independence, and celebration of femininity," explains Penny Preville. "I want women to connect with the jewelry in a meaningful way."
Penny finds inspiration for some of her collections in vintage jewelry. Stars and moons, flowers, feathers, and garlands are among the motifs that highlight necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. The flip side to the poetic pieces are designs with clean geometric lines and polished surfaces, all of which define a more modern focus.
While the designer adds splashes of colorful gems and pearls to her exquisitely made jewelry, diamonds, in all shapes and sizes, are the main component in the collections. "Diamonds are the fairytale stone," says Penny.
The beauty of the designs blended with fine craftsmanship and Penny's eye for details, results in heirloom quality jewels that women will put on and never want to take off.
Celebrity and Press
One of the first bold faced names to buy one of Penny's jewels was Jackie Kennedy. Any number of celebrities have followed in the former First Lady's footsteps. Some who have worn Penny's jewelry on the red carpet include Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katie Holmes, Sandra Bullock and Oprah Winfrey.
Penny's jewels have been featured in important national magazines over time including Town & Country, InStyle, Harper's Bazaar, and W. Her dreamy engagement rings have been featured on the Today Show "Throws a Wedding" segment.
How It All Began
It's been almost forty-five years since Penny Preville launched her designer collection. It all started as a personal passion. Enchanted by jewelry from a young age, Penny loved playing with the pieces in her grandmother's jewel box. By the 1970's, she began her professional foray in jewelry with a collection of simple beaded pieces accented with feathers. In just a few years, Penny was using precious materials and creating her signature new vintage looks. "I wanted to make jewelry that I could wear," explains the designer. "Jewels that felt romantic, but fit into a modern lifestyle."
Penny has won numerous accolades for her work including the WJA Award for Excellence in Design and the Town & Country Couture Diamond Designer's Excellence Award. Yet the most important praise to her is the fact that the jewelry gives her clients joy.
When Penny's eldest son, Skyler, decided to propose to his girlfriend, Mara, in 2009, Penny designed a special engagement ring. This first piece evolved into her bridal collection.
All Penny Preville jewelry is made in the finest materials. It is exclusively manufactured in 18K green, rose, and white gold, as well as platinum. Every piece is handcrafted.
